'Return to Normal' Expectations Pushed Back | UPDATED

We continued to ask respondents about when they expect their lives to “generally return to normal”. According to our March 25 survey, we found that respondents remained optimistic about when they believed their lives would “return to normal”. At that time, vaccines were starting to become available and COVID-19 restrictions were slowly being lifted.

Since March, expectations for a return to normalcy have increased by approximately 116 days. Our latest results reveal that respondents now expect their lives will “generally return to normal” by the beginning of January 2022.

In addition to later expectations for a return to normalcy, there is growing concern regarding a potential surge in COVID-19 cases. Our latest survey reveals that 33% of respondents are “very concerned” or “extremely concerned” about a potential surge in cases. This marks an increase of 15% since early June, when only 18% of respondents shared that same sentiment.
