Expectations Extended for Post-Pandemic 'Return to Normal' – Update

In our February 8, 2021 poll, results reveal that Americans expect their lives will “generally return to normal” by the end of August 2021. These expectations increased by approximately thirteen weeks since our November 3 post. At that time, the median expectation for a return to normalcy was the beginning of July 2021.

While Americans anticipate that life will return to normal in 2021, there is still a lot of uncertainty about the future. In our February 8 poll, we asked respondents if they believe the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic is ahead or behind us. Only 31% of respondents believe that the worst is behind us and 44% are uncertain of what lies ahead.
