Since November 2020, we have continuously asked respondents how often they wear a face mask or covering while in public. From November 2020 to May 2021, on average, 89% of respondents wore a face mask in public “all the time” to “most of the time.” Our latest results reveal that 58% of respondents are consistently wearing a mask -- this marks a decrease of 30% since May.
While these findings are consistent with the recent announcement from the CDC that fully vaccinated people can resume activities without wearing a mask, our results reveal that unvaccinated respondents wear a face mask less frequently than respondents who are fully or partially vaccinated while in public. Specifically, we observe that 77% of vaccinated respondents wear a face mask in public “all the time,” while only 16% of unvaccinated respondents (vaccine-hesitant or refuse vaccine) say the same.

Results based on surveys of 252 respondents from June 11, 2021 through June 14, 2021. All surveys were conducted online from respondents in the United States.
